Maths Equipment Must Haves

Calculator

Selecting an appropriate calculator is essential for achieving top results in your GCSE Maths exams. The Casio CG85X is perfect for Foundation level, offering easy-to-use features that simplify calculations. For higher-level papers, the Casio CG991 provides advanced functions. Ensure you pick the model that best fits your exam needs and study preferences to optimise your performance.

Ruler

Ensure your ruler is a minimum of 15cm long.  Ensure that you can easily see the cm and mm markings as your ruler will be needed for measuring not just drawing straight lines.  A translucent ruler is best.

Compass

Having your own compass is really useful.  Being able to tighten the screw to make the arms more rigid can make all the difference when drawing a circle or an arc.  Ensure you have a sharp pencil to use with it!

Protractor

There are many different designs for a protractor.  You can get full circle ones, half circle ones, ones with cross hairs printed on and ones with a hole for you to better see the point you need to place the protractor over.  Ensure you can easily see the degree markings on your protractor as this will be needed for measuring and accuracy is very important.  A translucent protractor is best.

Pens & Pencils

Always have more than one black pen available in an exam.  Ball point pens are best as there is minimal risk of smudging.

Sharp pencils are also very important.  Mechanical pencils are great as you don't need to sharpen them but you will need to ensure you have graphite refills to hand.

Rubber & Sharpener

Rubbers are essential for you to be able to erase any mistakes when drawing diagrams.  But DO NOT rub out any construction lines when bisecting angles, lines, etc.
